Introduction

Hello All,

My name is Brianne Martinez and I am currently working at Otay Ranch High School as an ASB accounting technician and field hockey coach.  I am completing my final courses in order to begin my teaching career.  My goal is to become apart of National University's teaching internship program by Fall 2014.   I have passed my CSET exams in Physical Education and I am now working on studying for my biology CSET exams.  I would love to teach either or both subjects.

I chose the education field because I honestly believe it is a platform to shape and change the lives of students for the better.  I want to be able to educate my students on the given content and also attempt to give them the resources they will need to be successful outside the realm of high school.  It took me until graduate school to have a professor that deeply ignited my passion to teach, but I have always wanted to work at a high school whether it be in a teaching or administrative role (I do plan on getting my administrative credential).

Upon completion of the Team Technology personality test, I was not too surprised by my results.  I would consider myself to be a no-nonsense type of person who likes to get things done as they arise.  The personality test essentially outlined that I am an action-oriented person who enjoys applying practical skills to achieve a goal.  However, I was surprised that the results stated that I am "probably often urging my colleagues to stop talking and get on with doing something."  I did not know that answering these questions would reveal the type of coach I am and how I approach most tasks!  I have come to learn that my coaching style is much like how I would run my future classroom.

I hope my personality will affect my relationships with my students positively.  I am not aiming to be the "cool" teacher or the "fun" teacher.  I am there to help these students learn and to help them gain the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in the real world.  I understand that, that may make me "strict" or "not cool," but in my own personal experience, I have appreciated the teachers who loved what they taught and wanted to share that knowledge with me as a student.

I am looking forward to learning from everyone in this next month!

Sincerely,
Brianne Martinez
